About
Press
Press is a news site that does not sell anything. No display ads. No sponsored content. No native advertising. No newsletter sponsor reads. No branded studio productions. No enterprise licensing of bias scores. No data sold to ad exchanges. No affiliate links. No paywall.
It is funded by one person. David Jean Charlot, PhD. He is the only payer and the only publisher. That is the entire business model.
The reason this matters is structural. News organizations that accept advertising money end up serving advertisers, eventually. Everyone swears this is not true about them. It is true about them. Press removes the vector.
What we cover
Seven regions with equal weight: Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East, Latin America, North America, Oceania. No US-default framing. No "World" as a dumping ground for non-US news.
Sixteen transnational beats: Politics, Markets & Economy, Business, Tech, AI, Science, Space, Health, Climate, Sports, Arts, Food, Travel, Investigations, Obituaries, Weather.
What we don't cover
No opinion. No editorial. No columnists. No op-eds. If you want David's opinions, that's the blog at voice.davidjcharlot.com — explicitly biased, explicitly authored. Press is the opposite: report what happened, cite the source, get out of the way.
Sources
Roughly a hundred primary-source RSS feeds across all beats: wire services (Reuters, AP), regional papers (Daily Maverick, Nikkei Asia, El País, Haaretz), research registries (arXiv, bioRxiv), government feeds (NOAA, WHO, ESA, NASA), and accountability journalism outlets (ProPublica, ICIJ, Bellingcat, OCCRP).
Story list is ingested, clustered, and presented. What you see on Press is what the primary sources actually reported, not what a PR firm wanted you to see.
No AI slop
AI is used for deduplication, translation across language sources, and finding the underlying event across different framings. It is not used to generate news. If a story appears here, it appears because a primary source reported it.
